TO MY ABSENT FRIEND

‘Tis the season to be jolly,

Not to be jolly sad.

So Merry Christmas to my friend,

A great friend to be had.

Your smiling face I’ll picture,

On this Christmas day.

A special thought, I’ll think of you,

And a Christmas prayer I’ll pray.

A Christmas candle will be flickering

In Christmas glow for you.

And “Merry Christmases” said to all

Would be just what you’d do, too.

As I unwrap my presents

And listen to seasons cheer,

In my heart, you’ll be there

For this special time of year.

It’s heartbreaking you’re not with us,

To share Christmas time together.

But remember, Max, our Best Gift was you

The Greatest Gift To Treasure.

Keep that halo twinklin’

Love,

Michelle xxx

Here is yet another poem that I have found that I can only say is Maxine
If I should go before the rest of you,
Break not a flower, nor inscribe a stone,
Nor, when I'm gone, speak in a Sunday voice,
But be the usual selves That I have known.
Weep if you must:
Parting is hell,
But life goes on
So...sing as well!

To My Friend Max…

Your one in a million, dear Maxine…
The Ultimate “BEST FRIEND”
And with my pen and paper
This poem, to you, I send

When we met, you stood out right away.
Your personality said it all!!
So bright and wonderfully chatty,
And Ozzy Osbourne all over your wall!!

It was if you had taken me “under your wing”
Making sure I was always OK…
Having chats about all sorts, be it morning or night,
Conversations to help pass the day.

Then we progressed onto sewing!!
I really loved helping out making your bags
They’re brilliant! You do them so “Spot on”
Needles “a flurry” without any snags.

Our laughs in the morning at fag-time
I always looked forward to “6”
Discussing yesterday’s menu mess-ups
And “what can we do today?” Antic’s.

I always admired your courage too…
You never stood for any flack.
That’s also why I’m so glad to know you…
‘cos you helped me get myself on track

There’s a million and one things I could say,
About you, because you are the Best
If you were a rose in the garden of life
You’d stand proud and tall
Way above all the rest!!

This is not really a memory.
I found this on the internet and I think it sums up Maxine's Struggles completely
Maxine always said that there was a voice driving her forward,  her second head as she called it.
I hope this gives you an insight of the struggle Maxine faced on a daily basis
A poem about ED friendship; Author Unknown;
I know we had out struggles
But it seems mad to say goodbye
We grew so close towards the end
Can I just let this die?
You helped me through the hard times
You helped me see my flaws
But when I’m thinking clearly
I see these were things you caused
I ran to you for compliments
When I’d lost weight again
I’d run to you, so hungry
You’d say ignore the pain
At first you were so gentle
You made me feel so pleased
But then you wanted more from me
You taunted and you teased
You hung around my mirrors
You stayed sitting by the scales
You counted every calorie
And counted every fail
And when I tried to fight you
When I began to eat
You’d stand there watching, mocking
Laughing at my defeat
Then I’d feel so guilty
Run back to your embrace
You helped me right the wrongs I’d made
While screaming insults in my face
I know I’ve got to leave you
In the past where you belong
You’re telling me I’m being weak
But I guess I’m being strong
I’ve had so many struggles
So I’ve got to say goodbye
We grew so close towards the end
Now this friendship’s got to die

5th November, bonfire night. Today brings back many memories of past bonfire nights;
The 1st time Maxine and I went to Blackpool to see the fireworks from the pleasure beach, we were only 17 then and we missed the last train home, so I had to get my dad to come and collect us.
Then there was the 1st bonfire night after we got married. This was in Catterick, North Yorkshire. I was in the army then and my regiment put on a family display, we had a bonfire and all the normal fireworks, but for a little extra flash and bang to finish off the night there was several salvos of star shells and 120mm tank rounds fired (blanks of course). These rounds were louder than any firework you get today. This was also the 1st time Maxine got to ride in a tank as we took them back to their sheds after the display had finished.
There was the time that we all went as a family to the display at Botany Bay; the weather that night must have been the windiest and wettest night on record, So, we decided to walk as it was only 10-15 minutes away.  We had only got 200 yards before we had 3 broken umbrellas and soaked through to the skin, and to top it all the display was cancelled.
After that it almost became a tradition to go to the display at Duxbury Park. We would all gather at Maxine's Mums, the kids and some of the adults with their wellingtons, hats, and gloves. We would all walk down to the bonfire and queue for the hot Vimto, hot dogs or jacket potatoes before the main event. The fireworks would always last 15 or 20 minutes but Maxine being Maxine would get bored after 10 minutes.
